Progress on our re-development The Inn is now closed until Friday 6th June for a major refurbishment and extension works. The original deadline of May 23rd bank holiday weekend has regrettably become unachievable. We have uploaded pictures below to help give you an idea of the scale of the changes and the impact it will have when the Inn re-opens. Revised Countdown to re-opening : : : : Weeks Days Hours Minutes Seconds The changes see ten new ensuite bedrooms, a new Garden Room restaurant & function room along with better facilities for the less able. The Inns "Olde World" charm will be retained with original beams, real fires and the same familiar faces to greet you when we re-open. If you are planning an event for 2008/9 please call us on 01282 863447. Thank you for looking and be sure to check back soon as we upload more pictures. Click on any of the pictures to enlarge the image for a better look The project starts with the removal of the old internal fixtures & fittings Next the myriad of old "lean to" structures are removed to make way for the new Garden Room, additional toilets and rear entrance. Work on the construction of the new Garden Room commences with the steel structure and dwarf wall being built. You can see the new openings for the internal doors connecting this new restaurant & function room to the old dining room which becomes our new lounge with dining & function facilities. The unsafe gable end wall is demolished so that it can be rebuilt correctly protecting us from the elements and hundreds of years of damp which had previously been hidden from view. Our new eco friendly bio digester is to be sunk into a huge trench under the car park and so construction of this mammoth hole and laying of a concrete base takes place whilst work internally sees much demolition to form the new entrance, bar & dining areas. Some of these pictures make the old place unrecognisable. Upstairs the new bedrooms & ensuite bathrooms are all perfectly formed and with first fix electrics & plumbing completed the plasterers get to work boarding the new walls ready for the final wall surfaces to be completed. Our huge bio digester is slowly lowered by crane and surrounded by tons of concrete to form its new home under the far edge of our car park whilst work on rebuilding the gable end progresses swiftly. The new Garden Room is starting to take shape nicely with the bespoke oak roof trusses accurately positioned whilst the block and stone supporting wall is constructed to a superb finish. Internally things start to take shape with the completion of the first fireplace. This stone surround was actually uncovered during the demolition and was rescued and restored and given pride of place in the main bar. Upstairs plastering, painting, some second fix plumbing & tiling the ten new ensuite bathrooms takes place. Downstairs first fix electrics near end and preparation for plastering & flooring takes place. Outside, the final piece of the vast drainage puzzle is put into place and at the rear the new Garden Room roof is painstakingly constructed. With paint on the walls and with fully tiled bathrooms, final fix plumbing & electrics are completed. Only a small amount of work is needed now and then these ensuite rooms will be carpeted and furnished. With the roof well underway, the new Garden Room's dwarf wall emerges, whilst inside the new stone flagged floor is laid. The new Garden Room's air conditioning is now being installed into the walls and under the floor. In the main building the immense task of plaster boarding the walls and ceilings and then skimming gets underway. When dry in a few days time, the downstairs pub walls will be near ready for paint. Upstairs, final coat decoration commences whilst two new bedrooms which couldn't be constructed because of work on the gable-end quickly catch up. The new bath for our honeymoon suite arrived this week and as you'll see from the picture this mammoth tub with countless jets is plenty big enough for two! Carpets, curtains and furniture are all due shortly. With just four weeks to go things rapidly start coming together. The long overdue wooden framed windows finally arrive and are quickly installed. Upstairs decorators make their final touches. In the bar areas our plasterers work relentlessly all weekend to make ready for the oak bars & panelling to commence on Monday. Outside the new garden room is roofed in original slate. Artists impressions of how the inn will look when the work has been completed
