Out & about in the local area

The Inn is perfectly located for those who enjoy country pursuits. Situated on the top of a hill in a rural location, walkers can simply pull on their boots and head out of the door.  There are a number of walks to suit all abilities, from full scale expeditions across the moors, to a relaxed meander along the Fearndean Way through the valley and the Ball Grove Bird & Nature Reserve or a slightly longer trek through to the Wycoller Country Park.

Cycling

A stones throw from the Lancashire Cycle Way, allows cyclists to join this marked route which will help them take in some of the areas most break taking scenery.  Alternatively explore the quiet lanes and roads that surround the inn. Bikes are available to borrow for the inns residents.

Shooting

The Inn is only minutes away from the Kelbrook Shooting Lodge and as well as being able to organise clay pigeon shooting for our guests we can help organise events for parties.

Golf

Colne Golf Club is only a few minutes away from the Inn and the fairways boast similar magnificent views over the Lancashire countryside.  This is a nine-hole course but this shouldn't put you off, as this picturesque course is a true challenge for golfers of all abilities while not being too taxing on the legs of the not-so-young. The course is a flat moorland one, very scenic and with plenty of trees. There are several long par fours and some very challenging par threes. The short seventh in particular can be a card-wrecker, with a road to the left and steep gulley to the right.

Shopping

Sitting on the Lancashire / Yorkshire border, the delightful market town of Skipton lies only 15 minutes or so away.  Markets on the towns cobbled main street, are held every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and the wares are varied.

For clothes shopping, the historic town of Clitheroe with its idyllic streets and boutiques is only 10 miles away.  Closer to home, Colne is home to Boundary Mill stores, renowned for a huge selection of clothing and household items.

In addition Ponden Mill, Scar Top Antiques, Burnley's Barden Mill and the Junction 12 Shopping Outlet are all close by.

With Colne sitting at the end of the M65, Preston, Manchester and Leeds are only short drives away.

Historic Interest

Only a short distance from the Inn, is Wycoller Country Park which is one of the prettiest in the country.

In nearby Skipton, one of the most complete and best preserved medieval castles in England remains and is a huge attraction for visitors.  Try to visit on Market day too if you enjoy wandering through the bustling streets and doing a spot of shopping.

Clitheroe Castle is also close and the views from the old castle walls are breathtaking, as is the walk up the hill!

In the other direction Haworth Village is situated at the edge of the Pennine moors in West Yorkshire, the area made famous by the Bronte Sisters, today known as Bronte Country and is also worth a visit for any with an interest in steam railways.

The haunted 14th century Townley Hall and gardens is also close by in neighbouring town Burnley.
